‘The Joy of a Perennial Garden’
with The Garden Curator, Colleen Southwell
Gardening with perennials is like painting with watercolour – the plants, like watercolour paint, flow and merge and find their own way in an evolving work in progress. This Sunday workshop brings to life Colleen’s Field Notes handbook – Making a Perennial Garden.
Throughout the day, we’ll learn about making a perennial garden abundant with life, colour and texture. We’ll dig into plant selection for a long season of interest using flowers, form and foliage, and the magic ingredients of light and movement.
The day will culminate with a fun and practical exercise as we bring a perennial garden design to life with a scaled table-top ‘garden’. Imagine large trestle tables, covered with sheets of paper and a garden drawn to scale, then placing oversized coloured images of the plants into the garden……..how much fun!
This exercise will help you understand the concepts discussed earlier in the day, and will visually illustrate the thinking behind putting a perennial garden together.
You will see the ideas come to life!
We hope you can join us! X
